BITOU BUSH Control in the sydney metropolitan region

This regional project is funded under the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) Program through the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority. It aims to assist councils, private landholders and the Dept of Environment and Climate Change in the strategic and coordinated management of Bitou Bush (Chrysanthemoides monilifera ssp rotundata) in the Sydney Metropolitan region to reduce the extent and spread of Bitou Bush and its impacts on coastal environments.

On-ground control and eradication of Bitou Bush is being undertaken at a number of strategic locations along Sydney's coastline:

Dept of Environment and Climate Change (NPWS)
•  Botany Bay National Park (North)
•  Botany Bay National Park (South) – Kurnell Peninsula
•  Towra Point Nature Reserve.

Bitou Bush (light green) growing alongside the coastal walkway at Diamond Bay Reserve, which has been targeted under the SMCMA Bitou Bush Control project. This is one of only two infestations in the Waverley Council area which threaten to spread along the entire coastline replacing native plant communities.
