Declaration of Privet as a Noxious Weed throughout the South West Sydney Region

The South West Sydney Regional Weeds Committee is currently working towards a consistent declaration of Privet (both Small Leaf Privet and Broad Leaf Privet) throughout the region. This serious environmental weed is already declared throughout northern and north-western Sydney.

Currently, Privet is only declared a noxious weed in the following council areas in the South West Sydney region:
• Camden Council
• Cambelltown City Council
• Fairfield City Council

Remaining councils in the region are now working towards a similar declaration. Privet is classified as a Class 4 weed under the new Noxious Weeds Act 1993.

Privet has been described as one of the worst environmental weeds in the Sydney region. Its declaration as a noxious weed assists in its removal on private land and helps reduce its spread into Sydney's bushland areas.
