Regional Weed Projects
There are many regional weed projects currently underway across the Sydney region, most of which are grant funded:
Sydney-wide
• Bilingual Weeds Workshops
• Bitou Bush management
• Mapping of high priority weeds
• Implementation of the Sydney Metropolitan and Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment Weeds Strategies.
• Development and implementation of a Weed Alert Process.
• Update of the Sydney-wide Regional Ludwigia Management Plan.
• Development of Weeds Education Display Material for the shared use of Committee members.
• Sydney Region WEEDeck – a resource for agency staff and volunteers.
• Grow Me Instead booklet and nursery education project about garden plant escapes.
South West Sydney
• On-ground control works for Alligator Weed, Ludwigia, Salvinia and Water Hyacinth.
• Development of a new regional plan for Aquatic Weeds - including Alligator Weed, Salvinia, Senegal Tea and Water Hyacinth.
• Seeking the declaration of Privet and Bridal Creeper as noxious weeds throughout the region.
• Regional mapping of Alligator Weed, Ludwigia, Salvinia and Water Hyacinth.
• Development of Aquatic Weeds workshop for local Nursery and Aquarium businesses.
• Seeking funds for the control of Green Cestrum.

Sydney Central
• On-ground control works for Alligator Weed and Ludwigia.
• Development of a new regional plan for Aquatic Weeds - including Alligator Weed.
• Development of a new regional plan for Celtis.

Alligator Weed growing along the
creekbank at Bents Basin State Recreation Area.
All infestations are being treated by Department of Environment and Climate Change,
including using a helicopter to dispose of weed material removed in the gorge
area.
