Groundsel Bush

Description:
Native to north eastern America, Groundsel Bush is a bushy shrub from 1 - 6m high.

Male and female flowers are on separate plants. Male flowers are cream, female flowers are white. Flowers from summer to autumn.

Produces numerous seeds giving the plant a fluffy white appearance.

Each plant can produce up to 1.5 millions seeds per year.

Dispersal:

Impact on Bushland:
Found in poorly drained sites around coastal wetlands. It is a major problem on the north coast of NSW and is spreading southward to sections of the central coast.

Control:

Manual: Young plants are easily removed by hand-pulling.
  Care should be taken to remove all the roots as they are capable of re-growth
  For large infestations regular slashing over the long term has proven effective.
